Biography

Dr. Stockdale has served as a speech-language pathologist primarily in acute care and university settings. He is a clinical faculty member for the MS-SLP program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP), and he works as needed/as available at two acute care hospitals. He champions the endeavor to better understand the profession’s needs for working with patients with swallowing disorders and to facilitate education that is proportional to the needs of this role. In addition to dysphagia, his other clinical foci include aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive-communication disorders. During his time at RMUoHP, he has collaborated to expand the MS-SLP program’s swallowing & swallowing disorders curriculum into a 4-course series based upon needs elucidated by research. To facilitate best practices, he organizes annual dysphagia continuing education conference, Hard to Swallow: A Catalyst for Change in Dysphagia Management. His teaching philosophy is paramount to clinical problem-solving, open communication, and self-reflection. Before his current positions, he had served as a clinical instructor at the University of South Florida and worked in several acute care settings. He received an undergraduate degree from West Virginia University, a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Florida, and a Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University. Clinical Expertise Tim’s clinical expertise includes swallowing, communication, and cognitive disorders.
